Car > Doors and Locks

Conair Pro Styler 1600. If the lock on a car door freezes, before calling a locksmith, aim a Conair Pro Styler 1600 hair dryer set on hot at the keyhole to gently thaw the frozen lock.

Glad Flexible Straws. To defrost a frozen lock on a car, insert one end of a Glad Flexible Straw into the key slot and exhale a few times into the other end. The hot air should easily thaw the lock.

Pam Cooking Spray. To lubricate a squeaky car door, spray Pam Cooking Spray on the hinges and wipe off any excess oil with a dry cloth or paper towel.

Pam Cooking Spray. To prevent car doors from freezing shut in the winter, spray the rubber gaskets with Pam Cooking Spray. The vegetable oil seals out water without harming the gaskets.

Vaseline Petroleum Jelly. If the car key doesn’t open the car door, rub a little Vaseline Petroleum Jelly on the key before inserting it into the lock. The petroleum jelly will lubricate the tumblers.

WD-40. To lubricate a squeaky car door, spray WD-40 on the hinges and wipe off any excess oil with a dry cloth or paper towel.

Wesson Corn Oil. To prevent car doors from freezing shut in the winter, rub the gaskets with Wesson Corn Oil to seal out water without harming the gaskets.

Wilson Tennis Balls. To keep your car door open without wasting the battery, wedge a Wilson Tennis Ball into the door jamb to depress the interior light switch.
