Carpet > Stains

Arm & Hammer Clean Shower. To clean spots from carpet, spray Arm & Hammer Clean Shower on the stain, rub with a wet sponge, and let dry.

Canada Dry Club Soda. Pour a small amount of Canada Dry Club Soda onto the stain, rub gently with a sponge, and then blot up with paper towels.

Gillette Foamy. To remove stains from carpet, spray some Gillette Foamy shaving cream on the spot, scrub with a wet scrub brush, and then blot with a wet cloth to remove the extra foam.

Gunk Brake Cleaner. To clean stubborn oil stains from car pet, spray the stained area thoroughly with Gunk Brake Cleaner, rub it in with a sponge, let it dry, and then vacuum. As the brake cleaner dries, it absorbs all moisture, allowing you to vacuum up the resulting powder with ease.

Huggies Baby Wipes. To lift minor stains out of the carpet, gently rub the stain with a Huggies Baby Wipe.

Kingsford’s Corn Starch. To clean spills from the carpet, sprinkle Kingsford’s Corn Starch over the spot, wait thirty minutes, and then vacuum clean.

Lestoil. To clean lipstick stains from carpet, dampen a clean cloth with a few drops of Lestoil and gently dab the lipstick stain until it disappears.

Murphy Oil Soap. To clean stains from carpet, mix one quarter cup Murphy Oil Soap in one gallon of water. Using a clean sponge, dampen the spot with the solution and then blot with a clean cloth.

Pampers. To blot up spills from carpet, place a Pampers disposable diaper facedown over the stain and place a few heavy books on top of the diaper to hold it in place for ten to fifteen minutes. The super-absorbent polymer flakes in Pampers absorb messy spills quickly.

Parsons’ Ammonia. To clean stubborn stains from carpet, mix two cups Parsons’ Ammonia in one gallon of warm water, dampen a sponge with the solution, rub it into the stain gently, and then blot up with paper towels.

Shout. Spray Shout Stain Remover on the stain, let sit for five minutes, and then wipe clean with a clean, wet cloth. The fragrance in Shout also freshens the carpet, and the stain remover prepares the stained area for the next time you have the carpet steam cleaned.

Smirnoff Vodka. Spray Smirnoff Vodka on the stain, scrub gently with a brush, then blot up with a clean cloth or paper towel.

Spray ‘n Wash. Spray stains on the carpet with Spray ‘n Wash, let sit for five minutes, and then wipe clean with a clean, wet cloth.

Tide. Mix one cup liquid Tide with two cups water. Scrub the stain with this color-safe solution. Rinse with cool water, blot with a clean cloth or paper towel, and let dry.

20 Mule Team Borax. Blot up the spill, sprinkle 20 Mule Team Borax to cover the area, let dry, and vacuum. (Before treating, test an inconspicuous spot on the carpeting with a paste made from 20 Mule Team Borax and water to make sure the borax does not remove any color from the carpet.)

WID-40. To clean grease, tar, or oil-based paint from carpet, spray a clean cloth with WD-40 and scrub the spot. To remove the grease stain from the WD-40 from the carpeting, use a mixture of a few drops of Dawn Dishwashing Liquid and some water, scrub lightly, and then blot up with a paper towel.

Windex. To clean food or juice stains from carpet, blot up as much of the stain as possible, spray the affected area with Windex, and then wipe clean with a cloth or paper towel. Windex has been known to clean cherry-flavored Kool-Aid from white carpeting.

Wonder Bread. If you spill oil or grease on your carpet, rub a slice of Wonder Bread over the spot to absorb the oil or grease, then vacuum up the crumbs.
