Common Sports For Caulking (Page 2)


Step 4. Old caulk that is cracked or pulling away from the joint should be removed. Cut both sides of the old caulk using a carpet knife or utility knife and pull the debris from the joint. Remove dust with an old paintbrush.

 

Step 5. Once the caulk is removed, prime the crack with exterior primer. Make sure to coat all the exposed wood.

 

Step 6. After the primer dries, caulk the joint and smooth the bead with your finger or a putty knife.

 

Step 7. Finish up the job by brushing on two coats of paint. Allow the caulk to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions, before you paint.
