Any receptacle is made safer
by installing it “upside down” with the rounded grounding slot at the
top. Three-prong receptacles are almost always installed with the round
third prong facing down, but some experts recommend wiring receptacles
with the third prong on top. This is because the third prong is the
grounding prong and doesn’t carry any current under normal operation. In
theory if something were to fall on a partially inserted plug, it would
hit the harmless grounding prong and not the cur rent-carrying slot
prongs. Either way, you’re wiring it right, but upside down may be
slightly safer.
