Installing a suspended ceiling (Page 2)

Step 4. Support the main runners with wires that are hooked to the runner and wound around a nail driven into the sides of a joist Install a wire every 3 or 4 ft. along the length of the runner. Check the bottom of the runner for level, and adjust the wires if necessary.

Step 5. Once the runners are level, install the cross pieces by snapping their ends into the runner slots. Screw these crosspieces to the edge strips when they fall between a runner and the room walls.

Step 6. Full tiles fit snugly into the track system. But perimeter tiles need to be cut. Use a framing square and a sharp utility knife to make the cuts. Donít try to save a few cents by pulling a dull blade through the cut. It can slip, tear the surface, a spoil the tile.

Step 7. After each tile is cut, slide it over the metal grid and drop it in place. The beauty of this system is that the tiles are just as easy to remove as they are to install. This makes it simple to get access to plumbing pipes and electrical cables hidden by the ceiling.
