Crisco All-Vegetable Shortening. To treat new wooden spoons to prevent staining from tomato sauce, rub a dollop of Crisco All-Vegetable Shortening into the wood and buff well with a clean cloth or paper towel. The shortening seals the wood.

Pam Cooking Spray and Bounty Paper Towels. To prevent tomato sauce from staining new wooden spoons, spray the spoons with Pam Cooking Spray, use a sheet of Bounty Paper Towel to rub the oil into the wood, then wipe clean.

Wesson Corn Oil and Bounty Paper Towels. To preserve a wooden spoon, put a few drops of Wesson Corn Oil on a sheet of Bounty Paper Towel, rub it into the wood, and then wipe clean.
