Stoves and Ovens > Ovens

Cascade and Bounty. To clean an oven, sprinkle the bottom of the oven with Cascade dishwasher detergent and cover with wet sheets of Bounty Paper Towels. Let stand for a few hours. Then wipe clean.

Kool-Aid. For a non-toxic oven cleanser, mix the contents of one packet of any flavor Kool-Aid with two quarts water and use it like cleanser. The citric acid in Kool-Aid cuts through the gunk in the oven.

Parsons’ Ammonia. Warm the oven slightly, turn it off, then set a small bowl of Parsons’ Ammonia inside the oven, close the oven door securely, and let sit undisturbed overnight. In the morning, open all the kitchen windows (making sure the room is well ventilated), stand back, open the oven, and let the oven air out for one hour. Wash the oven walls and floor with soap and water and wipe clean. The ammonia fumes loosen grease and grime from the oven walls.

Tang. To clean an oven, mix two tablespoons Tang and one cup water and use the orange drink mix like cleanser. The citric acid in Tang cuts through the grease and grime in the oven.
